Popular author, Tom Palmer, was invited to Stretford High School on 17th January 2017. He was met by 4 large groups of eager and enthusiastic Year 9 students. His sessions exceeded expectations as reading and football are not everybody’s forte, however, he engaged and inspired students to think about reading on a larger level.
Mr Palmer, briefly discussed the themes and genres of his books, particularly the Football Academy series, Foul Play and the Wings Series. In addition to this, students enjoyed his Football Reading Game which encompassed a football reading quiz that implicitly reinforced the variety of reading forms, ranging from newspapers to online blogs and was followed by a penalty shoot out. An amazing day for all who were involved!
Student comments:
TF: “The question and answer session made us focus. He was inspiring.”
UA: “He gave everyone a fair chance to win a trophy, it made us motivated.”
MA: “Creative”
HZ: “Enjoyed his question and answers.”
TZ: “We have never done it before as a whole class!”
