Some of our Technology-minded Year 10 Girls and Miss Horn have attended the UK Premier of Hidden Figures- an inspiring Oscar-tipped film about Dorothy Vaughn, Mary Jackson and Katherine Johnston crossing gender, race and professional lines to achieve brilliance and rise through the ranks of NASA. Not only did they see the film they were part of a live Q&A with a panel of inspirational STEM women from this country such as Rachel Riley (Countdown), Elspeth Finch (CEO of Indigo&), Anita Bernie (Spacecraft Platform) and Karen Holford( Royal Academy of Engineering and Rolls Royce).

The real life Hidden Figures have been credited with inspiring young women to engage in STEM subjects: currently 1 out of 5 people that work in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths fields are female. Let’s hope today was a step to changing that statistic. Thanks a lot to the Manchester United Foundation!
