Curriculum Structure

KS3 
We deliver all aspects of KS3 Science in Years 7 and 8 through units of work incorporating all three scientific principles, e.g. Kitchen Chemistry, Rockets, All about me. We then use standardised questions to assess pupils understanding to allow us to offer appropriate pathways for pupils to learn Science in KS4.

In key stage 4 pupils follow a number of possible routes depending on ability and preference.

  • High achieving pupils who wish to pursue Sciences to A level will take Triple Science
  • GCSE Science A, GCSE Additional Science and GCSE Further Additional Science  The result gained for each GCSE is made up of 3 externally examined units making up 75% of the final grade, and 25% from a Center Controlled Assessment.  There is only one opportunity to take each external exam at the end of the year of study.
  • The majority of the key stage 4 pupils will work towards two qualifications in Science
    • GCSE Science A and GCSE Additional Science   The result gained for each GCSE is made up of 3 externally examined units making up 75% of the final grade, and 25% from a Center Controlled Assessment.  There is only one opportunity to take each external exam at the end of the year of study.
