Curriculum Content

Year 7
Pupils work on a rotation system for Technology based subjects and spend 9 weeks in each area. Pupils study Computing for the full year.

  •  Resistant Materials – Clock, Money Box and Stationary Holder
  • Product Design – Badge Project
  • Electronics – Night Light
  • Catering – Healthy Eating (developing basic skills)

Year 8
Pupils work on a rotation system for Technology based subjects and spend 10 weeks in each area. Pupils study Computing for the full year.

  •  Resistant Materials – Creative Bird Boxes and Travel Games
  •  Product Design – Clocks / Acoustic Speakers
  •  Electronics – Speakers
  •  Catering – Healthy Eating (developing skills incorporating main courses)

Year 9
The following options are available to Year 9:

  • Design and Technology – Developing skills in the following areas to prepare for a GCSE qualification in Electronics, Product Design or Resistant Materials, or BTEC qualification in Engineering. Key skills as follows:
    • CAD/CAM and Manufacture – Ply Wood Lamp
    • Design Technology Theory – Specific coursework related tasks
    • Circuit Building – Speakers
    • Workshop Skills and Safety – Practical
  • Catering – Multicultural Foods, Ready Meals, Starters and Desserts

Year 10
Pupils select their option in Y9 and begin the two year GCSE course in Year 10.

  • GCSE Resistant Materials – Focussed practical tasks to introduce pupils to coursework and develop skills
  • GCSE Product Design – Focussed practical tasks to introduce pupils to coursework and develop skills
  • GCSE Catering – Focussed practical tasks to introduce pupils to coursework and develop skills

Year 11

  •  GCSE Resistant Materials – Pupils complete their coursework which is worth 60% of their final GCSE. A written exam is taken in June
  • GCSE Product Design – Pupils complete their coursework which is worth 60% of their final GCSE. A written exam is taken in June
  •  GCSE Graphic Products – Pupils complete their coursework which is worth 60% of their final GCSE. A written exam is taken in June
  •  GCSE Catering – Pupils complete their coursework which is worth 60% of their final GCSE. A written exam is taken in June
