Earlier this month, we entered the Stretford Chronicle into the FirstNews School Newspaper of the Year Awards.
I’m excited to announce that the Chronicle has WON!!!! in the category of Best Secondary School Newspaper 2018-2019!
We faced stiff competition, but ultimately the FirstNews team decided that the Stretford Chronicle and our student reporters demonstrated all of the journalistic and production values that they were looking for.
We will be featured in today’s issue of FirstNews, which is distributed to schools across the country – and they’ll be sending us a trophy before the end of the year!
The whole team deserve massive congratulations. This award recognises all of the hard work they’ve put into the Chronicle, and all of the fantastic articles they’ve written. Our student editor Aisha deserves special praise for proofreading every article and helping with the production of each issue, even in the run up to her mock exams.
Huge thanks are also due to Miss Winn, who suggested the idea of setting up a newspaper club and has been invaluable throughout the whole process.
I’m enormously proud of the students involved, and I’m looking forward to supporting them and the Chronicle into the next academic year. Keep an eye out for Issue 5, which we’ll be releasing before the summer holidays!
Thanks for reading,
Mr Lee
