KS4 students follow a curriculum that leads to a GCSE qualification in Lens Based Media
Year 10 and 11 Art pupils complete the AQA Lens Based Media curriculum over a period of two years and are also required to sit an externally set exam for 10hrs. Topics covered in year 10 cover all the mastery skills in Photography and also students work through four assessment objectives required to complete for the GSCE.
Year 10
Year 10 Curriculum Overview | Themes | Unit content |
Term 1 | Portrait Project | Pupils will have the opportunity to develop their Photoshop skills with the theme of Portrait. They will continue to develop their research and camera techniques and create a final portfolio of images. During this term they will be take on an educational trip to Manchester to gain a set of urban images and will have the chance to work with a professional photographer to develop a set of high quality images. |

In this project students will explore Assessment Objectives 1-4 creating personalised outcomes. Themes include; Colour, Light & Dark, In the News, Messages and many more. |
Term 2 | Component 2 | Students will sit an exam in lens based media. Students will usually be given their papers in January and will choose a project set by AQA. Usually there are seven themes to choose from. Students will be required to investigate a range of photographers and plan tehri shoots. In their 10 hour exam they will edit their work into a final gallery. |

Year 10 and 11 Art pupils complete the AQA Lens Based Media curriculum over a period of two years and are usually required to sit an externally set exam for 10hrs. However, AQA has advised schools that for 2021, students will complete Component 1 (GCSE Portfolio of work)) only. This means that students won’t need to start or complete Component 2, and the exam papers for 2021 will not be released on e-AQA in January (GCSE)
