Letter from the Headteacher – 5th November

Dear Parents & Carers,

I am writing to share some very sad news with you.

A Stretford High Year 9 pupil, Hajra Sidat, was involved in a car crash on Sunday 4th November just after midnight. She was travelling home with her mum, dad, older sister and her cousin. An ambulance was called but sadly Hajra and her dad died almost immediately. Her mum was taken to hospital and the doctors and nurses did all they could to try to save her life but her injuries were too severe and tragically she also died. Hajra’s cousin and her older sister Unaisah, who is a past pupil of Stretford High School, are in hospital and are stable. Our thoughts and love are with Hajra’s family.Today we had an extended form time so our children could spend some time thinking about what has happened and remembering Hajra.  We had a minute’s silence at 11.03 am to honour Hajra and her family.  If children were upset or in need of support during the day, they joined the team in the Hub and spent some time there sharing memories and creating a message wall.

We will be having a special assembly for our school community to come together to say a special goodbye to a very special person. The date and time has not yet been set.

In the meantime, you can find advice to help your child during this sad time on Child Bereavement UK website https://childbereavementuk.org  You might find it useful to read the information leaflets on How Children and Young People Grieve https://childbereavementuk.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/How-Children-and-Young-People-Grieve-Oct-2016.pdf and  A Teenage Guide to Coping with Bereavement http://childbereavementuk.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/A-teenage-guide-to-coping-with-bereavement.pdf?noredir=true

Yours sincerely,

Nicola Doward
