Dear Parents/Carers/Students
We hope that you enjoy reading Mrs Doward’s update and the activities within the newsletter this week:-
Success of the New School Day Structure
The new school day structure, implemented after consultation with students and parents, has been highly successful. The structure provides for longer lunch times, allowing for extracurricular activities like clubs to be run during these periods. The document also notes that the longer break times have been well-received by students, with many enjoying the opportunity to socialize and engage in physical activities. Now that we are in our last term of the academic year, we are surveying our students again to gather their views to inform us on what is the best structure for next academic year. We will be asking them if they would prefer if break time was 5 minutes longer.
Importance of Manners
The newsletter stresses the importance of manners, particularly in a school environment. It encourages students to address staff members (and each other) with respect, using titles like Sir, Miss, or Mx. The use of polite phrases like “please” and “excuse me” is also encouraged, along with the simple gesture of holding the door open for others. These small acts of courtesy can create a positive and respectful atmosphere in the school, enhancing the learning experience for everyone.
Postcard Design Competition
Stretford High School is also running a postcard design competition, where students are encouraged to showcase their creativity and celebrate their achievements. The winning designs will be featured on the school’s postcards, providing a unique and personalized touch to the congratulatory messages sent by the school. How to Enter and submission deadline:
Student Activities and Achievements
The newsletter highlights several student activities and achievements, including a recent football match where the Y7 team showed great resilience and determination. The school also hosted a dance show where they placed 5th among 13 participating schools, and a Critical Theory Club where Y9 students explored texts from a different perspective.
Conclusion
The newsletter provides an overview of the school’s activities and achievements, demonstrating the success of the new school day structure and the importance of manners in the school environment. The postcard design competition, along with the various student activities, helps to foster a sense of community and celebrate the success of the students.
