Letter from the Headteacher:-
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to half term 2 of 2023/24. I hope you all had a wonderful half term break and were able to enjoy your extra time together.
One of the things we are exploring in our new CARE curriculum during form time is helping our children to understand what helps them to learn well. We call the strategies ‘Thinking Moves’ and the first 3 moves we’re exploring are:
It really is a very simple concept – when you’re learning something new, it helps to look ‘ahead’ at what you are going to learn so you know what is coming, you can then think ‘back’ at what you’ve learned before to see if you’ve done anything similar and then you can ‘connect’ your learning together – this helps to reinforce previous learning and makes new learning easier.
I am sharing this with you because this is also a great way you can support your child at home, using the curriculum booklets we send home every half term. You can use the booklets to talk with your child about:
If they can find any connections in subjects or even across subjects, you will know that you are really helping to move their learning on. This is such a powerful way to help your child and to get involved in what they are learning in school. You don’t have to do it all in one night! It would be a lot to cover – maybe break it down over a number of nights.
If you do use this strategy at home, I would love to hear about how it goes. I am always contactable via email [email protected]. Of course, if you would like to speak with me in person, for any reason, simply contact my PA Mrs Howard at [email protected] to make an appointment.
Last, but not least, please remind your children to be save with fireworks over the weekend. We’ve made it thus far without incident and I know we all want that to continue!
Take care
