UK/Register-to-Vote

March 2018

Dear Parent/Carer,

A recent change in the law regarding voting registration for elections (general and local) means that this is no longer done automatically through the electoral roll. Those approaching voting age are now required to register to vote (if you are already registered you don’t have to do this again). With this in mind we intend to guide any students who wish to do so through the registering process. This is not compulsory and any students who do not wish to register are not required to do so.

The whole process takes about a minute online. All you need is your National Insurance number (most students in Year 11 now have this because they have turned 16. If your child hasn’t received their National Insurance number yet they will have to wait until they do receive it).

Registering is quick, easy and secure.

  1. Go to uk/register-to-vote
  2. Fill in your name, address, date of birth and a few other details as well as your National Insurance number.
  3. Pass the website details on to a friend and remind them to register.

If students wish to make their voices heard in politics they can only do so by registering to vote.

Mr Cooke and I will be in the dining room at school all through lunch next Thursday 22nd March with laptops if any students wish to be guided through the process.

If you have any questions then please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully,

MR C HIRST
