Year 11 – Next Steps!

Dear Year 11 parents/carers

Your child’s teachers have been very busy collating your child’s progress to submit their GCSE grades to the exam boards. This data has now been submitted to school and, much like Santa Claus, we will be checking and checking again to make sure they are recommended for the grades they deserve.

The grades we submit to the boards will be then be checked and standardised by the boards. Essentially, we put forward recommendations, the boards decide their actual grade.

We are not allowed to tell ANYONE the grades we recommend. Please don’t ask!

What this means is that KS4 studies have now come to an end. Year 11 teachers will not be setting Year 11 work from Monday.

However, we also know that your child has clear plans for their next steps. They know what subjects they would like to study next and which colleges they have applied for.  Attached to this email is a collection of the colleges and contact websites which they can use to access resources to get a head start in their future studies.  Mrs Reynolds has collated this for them. Your child should use  this time to work on their future studies.

Does this mean we will stop all contact with them? No – their form teachers will still be emailing them for a check in. Please encourage them to respond daily so we know they are ok. If they have worries or concerns, please encourage them to email their form tutors and we will help them. ….and you!

What about prom/leaving assembly etc? We still cannot confirm when we will be able to have end of KS4 celebrations. The old Vera Lynn song springs to mind as I write this…’we’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know how. But I know know we’ll meet again some sunny day….’

Your children have been a joy. I am privileged that you gave us the honour of caring for them for the past 5 years. I cannot thank you enough for the support you have given us as a school to help us do our best for your child.  I know that, as a school, we are blessed with the community of parents and carers that we work with.

For lots of you, the journey continues with us as your younger children grow with us. For others, it is the end of an era. I want to remind you all of our school Mantra: once a Stretfordian, Always a Stretfordian. We will always be here for you and your family. You are never on your own. Phone/email… we want to hear your news; celebrations and woes alike.

Take care and please stay safe!
