Welcome to the everything else Department

“Everything Else” (or “EE”) is the name given to the school’s Life Skills programme. The idea behind the subject is to teach all of the topics that students need to know about life after school. The curriculum has been composed by speaking to other teachers, parents and students. Topics covered include First Aid, Identity, Healthy Eating, Politics, Financial Education and Sex Education. We also discuss current affairs. This is because there are many news stories that our students are interested in. We use our “Everything Else” time to discuss these subjects within the safe confines of a classroom so that students can understand and engage with the modern world.

The Careers lessons at Stretford High School are also run through the EE department. During Key Stage 3 we run Careers sessions on the vocational rotation. At Key Stage 4 we take students through the process of transitioning to College. We help them to write their Personal Statements, prepare them for interviews and we also help them to write their College applications.

The Department is also responsible for running the “Duke of Edinburgh” Bronze Award at Stretford High School. This takes place during Year 9. Students have the option to sign up to the award and they can complete their Physical, Voluntary and Skills units with us. We also train them to acquire the skills needed to complete their two day camping expedition at Dunham Massey. Finally, we monitor the students as they make their way to the campsite and we supervise the site overnight.

Overall, we seek to provide students with the opportunities that they need to demonstrate their skills to future Colleges and Employers.
