WELCOME TO THE MFL DEPARTMENT
The MFL department at Stretford High School offers students the opportunity to study French, Spanish, Urdu or Arabic as part of the curriculum. Arabic was incorporated into our curriculum from September 2025 for Years 7 and 10; we are also developing a pathway to integrate Punjabi as a curricular language in the near future. We also support all students with community languages; we have supported students sitting examinations in a wide range of languages including Polish, Greek, Italian and Persian.
Studying a MFL is an enjoyable experience and a worthwhile challenge. We support students in making progress across the four skills of second language acquisition – speaking, listening, reading and writing – every learning cycle in order to communicate effectively in the target language.
As well as studying the language’s grammar, phonics and vocabulary, we develop our students as global citizens by studying the cultures of various communities from around the world.
