Dear Parents and Carers, students & staff

Exam Season and Our CARE Values

As we reach this pivotal point in the academic year, our Year 11 students are standing at the threshold of their main GCSE examinations. This is a season of hard work and high stakes, but it is also a moment for our students to showcase everything they have achieved during their time with us.

To navigate the coming weeks successfully, we are calling upon our entire school Community to rally behind our exam cohorts. This period is a marathon, not a sprint, and our CARE values provide the perfect roadmap for success.

Living Our CARE Values Through the Exams

  • Community: We are a team. Families, teachers, and students must work together. Parents, your role in providing a calm environment and a listening ear is the foundation upon which your child’s success is built.

  • Aspirations: These exams are the keys to the next stage of life. We encourage every student to keep their “eyes on the prize,” remembering that the effort put in now will open doors to colleges, apprenticeships, and future careers.

  • Resilience: There will be difficult papers and moments of fatigue. Resilience is about picking yourself up after a tough morning and walking into the afternoon exam with a fresh mindset. Stay positive and keep going.

  • Education: This is the culmination of years of learning. Trust in the preparation you have done and the support your teachers have provided.

The Essentials: Being Prepared

To ensure every student can perform at their absolute best, we ask for your support in maintaining a “no-stress” morning routine. Small logistical errors can cause unnecessary anxiety.

1. Logistics and Timing

  • Arrival: Students should be on-site at least by 8.30am

  • Equipment: Please ensure your child has a clear pencil case containing:

    • At least two black ink pens (biros).

    • Pencil, eraser, and ruler.

    • A calculator (with the lid/cover removed).

    • A clear water bottle (with all labels removed).

2. The “Home Athlete” Routine

Think of these exams like a sporting event. For the brain to function at 100%, the body needs:

  • Sleep: A strict “digital sunset” where devices are put away an hour before a reasonable bedtime.

  • Nutrition: A healthy breakfast is non-negotiable. It provides the slow-release energy needed for long papers.

  • Quiet Space: A dedicated, clutter-free area for last-minute revision and “winding down.”

A Final Word to Our Students

To our Year 11s: you have put in the hours, attended the interventions, and tackled the mock exams. Now is the time to believe in yourselves. We are incredibly proud of the young adults you are becoming, and the entire staff body is here to support you every step of the way.

Good luck to everyone—take a deep breath, stay focused, and do your best.

Take CARE,

Mrs Doward (Headteacher)
