SHS News 12/06/2026
Dear Parents and Carers, students & staff,
As we edge closer to the end of the academic year, it has been another incredibly busy and rewarding week at Stretford High School.
Here are a few important updates, celebrations, and reminders for the weeks ahead.
Celebrating Our Incredible Year 11s
Next week, we have officially reached the final week of the GCSE exam period! I want to take this opportunity to say how immensely proud we are of our Year 11 students. The maturity, focus, and dedication they have shown throughout this intense period have been absolutely exemplary. They have conducted themselves with grace under pressure, and they are a true credit to themselves and their families.
Once that final exam paper is handed in, we hope they take some well-deserved time to rest, recharge, and reflect on their hard work.
The Grand Finale: Year 11 Prom
Next Friday marks their Prom celebration. We are so excited to dress up, celebrate, and look back on their five-year journey with us. While this marks the end of their time in the classroom here, they will never truly leave us. Once a part of the Stretford family, always a part of the family—they leave us as true Stretfordians!
The Full Circle: Welcoming Our New Year 6 Students
The journey of school life moves in a beautiful, full circle. As we prepare to say a fond farewell to our oldest students, we are already preparing to open our arms to our youngest.
It won’t be long until we welcome our upcoming Year 6 students for their official Transition Day on Thursday 2nd July.
We know that moving from primary to secondary school is a momentous step for both children and their parents/carers. Our main priority on this day is to offer a warm, reassuring environment that builds confidence and eases any nerves. This day is crucial for ensuring a smooth, happy, and seamless transition when they join us fully in September. We cannot wait to meet them, discover their talents, and officially welcome them into the Stretford family!
Looking Ahead: Year 10 Mock Exams
As one chapter closes for Year 11, the next begins for our Year 10 students, who start their mock exam week on Monday. This is a vital stepping stone for their GCSEs next year, and we want to ensure they feel confident and ready.
To help them achieve their best, please support us by ensuring they:
-
Are Fully Prepared: Spending time reviewing their revision notes this weekend.
-
Have the Right Equipment: Arriving at the exam hall with a clear pencil case containing black pens, pencils, a ruler, and a calculator.
-
Prioritise Wellbeing: While preparation is key, looking after their mental and physical health is just as important. Please ensure they get plenty of sleep, eat well, and take regular breaks from revision.
Striking Silver! School Games Award
Finally, I am absolutely delighted to share some fantastic news: Stretford High School has officially been awarded the Silver School Games Award!
This wonderful achievement perfectly encapsulates our core school values, CARE, which our students live out daily through physical education and sport:
-
C – Community of team players: Working together, supporting one another, and celebrating collective success on and off the field.
-
A – Aspirational to achieve: Striving to be the absolute best they can be in every sporting event and fixture.
-
R – Resilience to dig deep: Finding that extra bit of determination and grit when things get tough.
-
E – Educate for lifelong fitness: Understanding the vital importance of physical activity for long-term health and wellbeing.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership. I hope you all have a wonderful, restful weekend.
Take CARE
Mrs Doward ( Headteacher)
