SHS News 26/01/2026

Dear Parents,Carers and Students,

As we approach the half-term break, I find myself reflecting on what an extraordinary week it has been at our school. While academic success is a core pillar of what we do, this week has highlighted the vibrant extra-curricular life that makes our community so special.

We often say that education is about more than just textbooks; it’s about opening eyes to the world of possibility. Whether it’s through the arts, industry, or service, providing these “real-world” experiences is just as vital as the National Curriculum itself.

Unforgettable Experiences

Our students have been incredibly busy across a range of inspiring environments:

London Theatre Trip: Students immersed themselves in the magic of the West End, experiencing world-class storytelling firsthand.

The BRIT Awards: In an incredible industry insight, our students worked alongside professional DJs, gaining a behind-the-scenes look at the music business and the careers that drive it.

Community Leadership: Our Year 9 leaders showed their true character by supporting the local community—rolling up their sleeves to help prepare and serve food for those in need.

Proud Ambassadors

One of my greatest joys is hearing how our students conduct themselves when they leave our gates.

I received a wonderful report from the PEXA staff following yesterday’s trip. The organisers were genuinely blown away by our group of 25 teenagers.

“The organisers commented on how mature, kind, and insightful our students were. The words ‘lovely’ and ‘aren’t they great’ were mentioned many times. They were surprised—and deeply impressed—by just how engaged our students were.”

To our students: you are fantastic ambassadors for your families and for this school. We could not be more proud of the impression you’ve made.

Looking Ahead: Half-Term

As we head into the break, I want to wish everyone a restful and safe week. Use this time to recharge and look after one another.

Year 11 Students: This is a crucial balancing act for you. Please ensure you use this time to rest and revive, but also to stay on top of your revision as we prepare for your upcoming mock exams. You’ve got this!

Have a wonderful half-term break, and we look forward to seeing you all refreshed and ready to learn.

Thank you, as ever, for your support.
