Dear parent and carers,
Energy, enthusiasm, and a true sense of pride—

That is the only way to describe the atmosphere at Stretford High School this week. It has been an exceptional period for our PE department and our student-athletes, and I wanted to take a moment to celebrate these achievements with you all.

National Champions!

The highlight of the week was undoubtedly our incredible victory in the Basketball National Cup Final. One of our Basketball players displayed world-class teamwork to secure the silverware. A special mention must go to one of our standout player, Camran H, whose crucial points in the final moments helped bring the trophy home. He proved himself to be a true team player and a genuine inspiration to Stretfordians past and present.

Beyond the scoring

The success didn’t stop there. Our Year 10 and 11 girls’ basketball team faced a tough challenge against Urmston Grammar. It was a fantastic game where they fought for every ball and, more importantly, fought for each other. They played with incredible energy, showing exactly what it means to have that “inner Stretfordian” spirit.

More Than Just a Game

While the trophies are wonderful, sport at Stretford High is about much more than winning. It is a live demonstration of our CARE principles in action. Here is how our sporting life connects to the values we instill in every student.

Community: Whether on the court or in the stands, sport brings us together. Seeing our students cheer for one another reminds us that we are one team, one school.

Aspirations: Reaching a National Cup Final doesn’t happen by accident. It starts with a dream and the belief that our students can compete—and win—at the highest levels.

Resilience: Sport teaches us how to handle pressure, how to bounce back from a missed shot, and how to keep going when the legs get tired. That “inner Stretfordian” character shines brightest when things get tough.

Education: The discipline, strategy, and analytical thinking required in PE are lessons that translate directly back into the classroom.

Watching our students play with such heart this week has been a joy. They haven’t just represented the school; they have represented the very best of themselves.

Thank you for your continued support in encouraging your children to stay active, stay ambitious, and stay Stretfordian!
